FTPES

(FTP over explicit TLS)

FTP over explicit TLS (FTPES) is a secure version of the FTP protocol that encrypts file transfers using Transport Layer Security (TLS). FTPES ensures that data transmitted between the client and server is protected from eavesdropping and tampering.

FTPES operates by upgrading an existing FTP connection to a secure TLS-encrypted connection. It is commonly used in environments where data security is critical, such as financial institutions and healthcare organizations. While FTPES provides enhanced security, it may require additional configuration and is less widely supported than
SFTP.
