FAT

(File Allocation Table)

File Allocation Table (FAT) is a file system architecture used in older versions of Windows and removable storage devices like USB drives and SD cards. FAT organizes files and directories using a table that tracks the allocation status of disk clusters.

FAT comes in several variants, including FAT12, FAT16, and FAT32, with FAT32 being the most widely used due to its support for larger file sizes and storage capacities. While FAT is simple and widely compatible, it lacks advanced features like file permissions and journaling, making it less suitable for modern systems. It has largely been replaced by
NTFS and exFAT in newer operating systems.
