CIFS

(Common Internet File System)

Common Internet File System (CIFS) is a network file-sharing protocol that allows users to access and share files over a network. CIFS is an enhanced version of the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol and is widely used in Windows environments.

CIFS enables features like file locking, offline caching, and access control, making it suitable for enterprise environments. While CIFS has largely been replaced by newer versions of SMB, it remains an important protocol for legacy systems and cross-platform file sharing.
